WFAA - Music Within

By Gary Cogill

The Music Within opened the Dallas AFI Film Festival and tells the enlightened true story of Richard Piminetel, wonderfully played by Ron Livingston, as a man who loses his hearing in Vietnam, then becomes an activist and eventually helped author the Americans with Disabilities Act.

That’s British actor Michael Sheen in a wheelchair playing Art Honeyman, an outspoken man with cerebral palsy.

In fact, everyone gives strong performances in The Music Within and the film goes a long way in changing the public perception of those who truly are disabled.

Director Steven Sawalich has created that rare breed of movie that is both smart and emotional. I’m impressed, this is a good adult film - with a good message.
